Das Paradis hat uns zurück: Koh Samed

Wir sind zurück…. Aber diesmal mit ‚Unterstützung‘ im Gepäck. Als ein paar unsrer Mitstudenten uns angeboten haben mit ihnen nach Koh Samed zu fahren  da sie noch zwei Betten in den Bungalows dies sie gemietet haben frei haben, mussten wir nicht lange überlegen. Also ging es letztes Wochenende zurück auf die Insel. Diesmal an den mehr abgelegenen Strand Ao Tian, mehr im Süden der Insel. Dort haben wir diesmal zwei ganze Tage verbracht, und wieder jeweils einen Tag für An- und Abreise verwendet. Den Strand haben wir direkt per Speedboot vom Pier in Ban Phe erreicht, da wir leider sehr spät ankamen und die Fähre nicht mehr fuhr. Ansonsten fährt auch ein Taxi vom Hauptstrand oder Fähranleger circa eine halbe Stunde dort hin, wofür wir immer 350 Baht bezahlt haben. Unser Bungalow war relativ gut ausgestattet, hatte eine tolle Veranda vor der Tür und Meerblick.

Am nächsten Morgen haben wir direkt gemerkt dass der Strand relativ einsam war, im positiven Sinne. Nur wenige Touristen waren am Strand anzutreffen, so hatte man seine Ruhe und  es war auch immer eine Liege frei. Auch die restlichen Bungalowparks die sich an diesem Strand befinden waren bestimmt gut besucht, was man aber definitiv nicht gemerkt hat. Die Kette von Bungalowparks ist nicht sehr lang und die Auswahl der Restaurant daher auch nicht so groß. Meine Ernährung über diese drei Tage bestand somit hauptsächlich aus Pad Thai – einem traditionellen thailändischen Gericht dem ich komplett verfallen bin – und Bananenpfannkuchen mit Honig zum Frühstück; aber das hab ich mir selbst ausgesucht. Der nächste Strand war zu Fuß durch ein kleines Stück Wald innerhalb von 15 Minuten zu erreichen. Dort war schon etwas mehr los, und es gab auch ein paar Geschäfte wo man Strandtücher usw. kaufen konnte.

Den kompletten Samstag haben wir am Strand liegend verbracht, sowie auch den kompletten Sonntag. Schließlich wollten wir auch ein bisschen Farbe abbekommen. Samstagabend haben wir dann den Hauptstrand unsicher gemacht. Am Had Sai Kaew waren wir ja schon bei unserem letzten Koh Samed Aufenthalt und kannten uns daher schon aus. Wir gingen wieder in das Restaurant am Strand das sich abends gegen neun wegen der bekannten Feuershow füllt. Nach einem traumhaften grünen Curry und ein paar Bier haben wir in die Nacht getanzt. Die Stimmung war grandios und über die Musik gab es nichts zu meckern. Toll an Strandfeiern ist auch dass man bei Bedarf einfach kurz ein paar Meter weiter am Meer die Ruhe suchen kann.

Als Fazit wo ich nun zwei Strände gesehen habe, kann ich nur sagen dass ich definitiv empfehle an einem der ruhigeren Strände einen Bungalow zu mieten. Zum Hauptstrand kann man immer noch günstig mit dem Taxi fahren wenn einem nach Part oder mehr Trubel ist, wie zum Beispiel einen Jetski leihen oder banana boat fahren. Aber während des Tages ist der Hauptstrand im Vergleich zu dem anderen Strand den ich gesehen habe schon sehr Touristenüberlaufen. Ao Tian war wesentlich ruhiger und paradiesischer!

Sonntagabend haben wir dann beschlossen dass wir unbedingt noch den Sonnenuntergang miterleben wollten. Also sind wir losmarschiert auf die andere Seite der Insel, was bei der Schmäle einen nur 15 minütigen Fußmarsch bedeutet. Bei einem kühlen Bier haben wir auf den Felsenden Wellen gelauscht und die Sonne untergehen sehen. Als wir am Abend noch gemütlich am Strand saßen wurde das Wetter immer aufbrausender und es hat das erste Mal richtig geregnet seit ich in Thailand bin. Auch am nächsten Morgen war es noch sehr diesig, und es hatte definitiv abgekühlt. Deshalb hatten wir uns auch entschieden nach einem späten Frühstück schon den Bus um 14 Uhr zurück nach Bangkok zu nehmen. In Bangkok haben wir auf dem Weg nach Hause einen Zwischenstopp in ‚Central World‘ eingelegt wo wir uns nach diesem tollen Wochenende in ‚The Pizza Company‘ noch ein stattliches westliches Mahl gegönnt haben bevor es zurück an die ‚Reis-front‘ geht.

Paradise has us back: Koh Samed

We are back… but this time taking along some friends. When some of our fellow students offered us to come with them to Koh Samed as they still have two extra beds in the bungalows they rented, we didn’t have to think twice about it. So we went back on the island last weekend. This time we chose for the more isolated beach Ao Tian, located more south of the island. This time we spent two whole days there, and again one day each for the journey back and forth. The beach we reached by speedboat, going directly from the pier in Ban Phe, as we arrived too late to take the ferry. Otherwise there is also a Taxi going from the main beach on the island or the ferry dock which takes approximately half an hour to get there. We always paid 350 Baht for this route. Our bungalow was relatively well equipped, with a nice veranda in front of the door and sea view.

On the next morning we directly realized how secluded and lonely the beach was, in a positive way. Only few tourists were lying on the beach, so we could really relax and there were always some free deckchairs. Also the rest of the bungalow parks on the beach were most certainly well visited, but you definitely could not notice it. The beach with its line of bungalow parks situated alongside is not quite long, wherefore the choice of restaurants was limited. My diet over these three days was dominated by Pad Thai – a traditional Thai meal which I absolutely love – and banana pancakes with honey for breakfast; but that was by my choice. The next beach was easily reachable within 15 minutes by foot through crossing a small forest. There was a bit more going on there, and there were even some shops where one could buy some beach towels etc.

The whole Saturday we spend lying on the beach, same goes for Sunday. After all we wanted to get some tan. Saturday evening we sought for some more excitement at the main beach. At Had Sai Kaew we already spent our last weekend in Koh Samed at, wherefore we already were familiar with it. We went again to the restaurant which has the fire show late at night, where the restaurant gets filled up with people. After a delicious green curry and a few beers we danced deep into the night. The mood was fantastic and about the music I also can’t complain. Nice about beach parties is also that if wanted you can just walk a few meters and get some peace walking along the seaside.

My résumé after having stayed at two different beaches till now is that I definitely would recommend to rent a bungalow at one of the more secluded and  peaceful beaches. To the main beach you can then still go cheap with the taxi if you feel like some partying or other excitement such as renting a jet ski or riding banana boat. But during the day, the main beach is very touristy compared to the other beach we stayed at. Ao Tian was definitely more calm and paradisiacal!

Sunday evening we have decided that we definetly wanted to go see the sunset. Therefore we walked all the way over to the other side of the island, which only means a 15 minute march due to the narrowness of the island. With a cool beer we sat down on the rocks, listened to the waves and see the sun set. When we sat together at the beach at night the weather suddenly started to change; it became windy and if really rained for the first time since I am in Thailand. Also on the next morning it was still a bit misty and it definitely cooled down. Therefore we decided to already take the bus back to Bangkok at 2 pm after a late breakfast. In Bangkok we made another halt in between before we would go home. We went to ‘Central World’ where we granted ourselves another western meal at ‘The Pizza Company’ after such a nice weekend, before we have to go back to all these rice dishes.
